Granny Wong's Fish & Chips

We looked for a good fish and chip shop on a Bank Holiday. We found Granny Wong's. As we walked up to the shop thinking its a Chinese chippy. Ordered a meal deal one fish, chips and curry sauce x2 for me and the missus. Got it home, Wow some of the best English fish and chips I've ever had. Definitely not Chinese style at all except for the phenomenal curry. If you are in Whitehaven please take the time to get to this place you won't regret it. The customer service is very good as well. The food is priced accordingly.

Our favourite local chip shop, cooked fresh, good portion size of chips, huge fish, well cooked, great value. Friendly staff. Cash only. Park on road outside.

Great chippy. Still quite cheap compared to other chippy's. Not much room to wait but waiting outside is always an option if its not raining.

Friendly staff, the fish was succulent and moist, not overcooked, and the chips were nice and soft, not too greasy and all at a reasonable price.

Great find. Fish and chips were delicious. The fish batter was nice and light and the fish itself excellent. Chips not greasy and cooked perfectly. Staff very friendly. Everything was very clean and my server sanitised her hands after taking my payment before handling my order. Love that. Will definitely only come here now for my chippy fix.

Great food! Good portion sizes and friendly service. The cod was huge and the batter was nice too! Would definitely go there again.

My first time coming to this lovely little chippy in Whitehaven since we moved here as it is tucked away just off the one way section (Duke Street) as both lanes turn the bend you will take that left turn onto Scotch Street. Be careful to park along here as it is all double yellow. My carer walked in to grab us both a portion of chips but I decided on chips and gravy and my carer said she would try the curry as they can differ from place to place. A nice sized portion was given and I do love the gravy and glad I chose that however the curry was a bit on the watery side but tasted nice nonetheless. The only thing I was a little disappointed with was when it comes to paying for your order is that they only accept cash and no cards at all, with the world going chip n pin contactless I think most shop owners should have a card machine at the very least but on this occasion my carer had to take a little walk to get some cash out. The menu prices are not too high and the quality is of very high standard, they was given a hygiene rating of 5 that sits proudly on the front window nearest to the door. Would I come here again... yes most definitely! But I would have to ask my carer to call in because there is a small step that would be a big problem for a wheelchair like mine to get over.
